I have extensive experience voicing the needs of Canadians and advocating for the rights of injured workers at Provincial Board. I have brought delegations to MPs at Parliament Hill. I have sat at round-table with the Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance to discuss policy reform. I have participated in National Pharmacare roadshows and at the Advisory Council. I have sat on School Councils from 2010 onward and have participated in National Childcare strategy discussions.
My family and I have called our Pickering community home for five years and my children all attend school under the DDSB. The education my children receive under the DDSB is a number one priority for me and a contributing factor for me running for the position of Trustee.
“I can bring about the change that is necessary at the Board level because I have experience in giving a voice to the needs of our people.”
Change needs to occur at the Board level. Parents’ voices need to be heard and we need to ensure we are allocating school funding to programs and strategies that will result in a positive and enriching learning experience for our children.
“With no parent input or consultation, we are sometimes left wondering who does this Board serve?”
Issues surrounding classroom sizes, bussing, and classroom climate control are all items that need to addressed immediately. Along with advocating for breakfast programs at our schools, I have also campaigned for improvements to our libraries as part of our Broader School Community Hub.
Friends, I don’t think our community is an isolated case. With the love and support of our community, I stand ready, as a School Trustee at the Board level, to bring your voice to every policy decision that effects our children.
Let’s all make Pickering the jewel of Durham Region!
Thank you for your support,
Experience. Commitment. Accountability.
I can bring about the change that is necessary at the Board level because I have experience in giving a voice to the needs of our people.
With no parent input or consultation, we are sometimes left wondering who does this Board serve?
Are you having bussing problems for your child?
Are the classrooms in your school appropriately climate controlled? Are there repair backlogs in your school? What is the state of washrooms and other facilities at your school?
Has your community been affected by change in school bell times and/or arbitrary boundary adjustments?
Is the portable situation in your school getting out of hand?
Are your school library and school digital resources suffering budgetary blues?
How effective do you think the school instruction is to get your child ready for the innovative economy?
Do you believe our schools should have integrated experiential learning programs such as cooperative education apprenticeships, Dual Credit Programs and specialist High Skills Majors?
Do you think our schools should also focus on digital citizenship and financial literacy?
Is Bullying and Classroom violence a menace at your school?
Do you think we need efficient budgetary allocation at Durham District School Board?
Do you feel the Board is doing enough towards its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness objectives?
Pickering parents fed up with overcrowding start petition for new school, Durham board says no quick fix
PICKERING — In the past three years, the student population at Valley View Public School in Pickering has jumped from a little over 100 to almost 300.
Rapid growth in north Pickering is bringing in a steady influx of new families with young children.
Concerned parents in the Duffin Heights area have submitted a petition asking for a new school to serve the community and say the Durham District School Board is “dragging its feet” on the issue.
